Leave ZenBusiness RA: cancel is not the state filing

“Cancel ZenBusiness registered agent” is two jobs. One is the state record: a successor agent and a filed change. The other is ZenBusiness billing: RA cannot be self-canceled in the dashboard in any state — you call support after the public record shows ZenBusiness is gone. What ZenBusiness publishes about canceling RA

Their cancel-subscription help is blunt: Registered Agent cannot be self-canceled in the dashboard in any state. Support confirms a replacement is in place before processing. The separate RA cancellation guide lists three paths — appoint a new agent, serve as your own agent where the state allows, or cancel after formal dissolution — and says the service stays active until state records reflect the handoff. Until then, ZenBusiness keeps receiving SOS notices and service of process.

The renewal trap if you stay

Leaving often starts because year 2 is not year 1. Standalone ZenBusiness RA is $99 in year 1, then $199/year — the intro cannot be re-upped. Three years of that vendor line: $99 + $199 + $199 = $497. Starter formation is $0 + state and does not renew; the RA add-on on Starter/Pro is $199 from day one, not the $99 intro. What the state change costs (among the sixteen we read)

Leaving ZenBusiness does not erase the secretary-of-state fee. Marketing asymmetry: when you switch to ZenBusiness, their change help says they can file the change-of-agent form and disclose state fees before filing. When you leave, that offer does not travel with you. Northwest Registered Agent publishes that it files the Statement of Change and pays the state fee when you appoint them (example: Florida change page, retrieved 22 September 2026 CT) — useful if the successor is Northwest, not a free exit from ZenBusiness alone.

How do I leave ZenBusiness as my registered agent?

Appoint a new registered agent (or lawfully serve yourself where your state allows), file the change with your secretary of state, then contact ZenBusiness support with proof that ZenBusiness is no longer the agent of record — or that the entity is dissolved. Their cancel help and RA cancellation guide say RA cannot be canceled in the dashboard in any state. Filing Address does not file the change for you.

Can I cancel ZenBusiness registered agent in my account?

No for the RA product. ZenBusiness’s cancel-subscription help (retrieved 22 September 2026 CT) lists Registered Agent as contact-support only in every state. Other products may offer Do Not Renew in CA, CO, DE, HI, IL, NY, TN, and DC; DNR is not available for RA.

What proof does ZenBusiness want?

Their RA cancellation guide says cancellation is complete only when state records reflect a new agent (or dissolution is verified). Typical evidence is a filed Statement of Change (or equivalent) stamped by the state, or a state business-lookup screenshot showing the new agent. No published leave-side offer. When you switch to ZenBusiness, their change help says they can file and disclose state fees before filing. Leaving is the opposite direction: you (or your new agent) pay the state’s change fee. Northwest publishes that it files the change and pays the state fee when you appoint them.
