Registered agent vs virtual mailbox
One of these is listed with the secretary of state and can lose you the company if it fails. The other forwards Amazon boxes and IRS envelopes. Checkout pages blur them. The statutes do not.

The states say so
Florida publishes the RA duty in §605.0113 and a $25 change fee. Florida note. California publishes Corp. Code §17701.13 and a $20 statement of information ($0 when the filing is only a change of agent). We do not invent a California business-hours rule. California note.
What a mailbox is still for
Founders buy virtual mailboxes for reasons that have nothing to do with service of process: keeping a home address off invoices, scanning IRS mail while traveling, giving a bank a street address that is not a PO box. Those are real jobs. They are additional jobs. Budget them on the virtual address note, not as a substitute for the registered-agent line.
Questions
Can a virtual mailbox be my LLC’s registered agent?
Generally no. A registered agent is a person or company that accepts legal service at a registered office. Traveling Mailbox’s help center (7 August 2026) says a virtual mailbox cannot serve as a registered-agent address. Anytime Mailbox says PO boxes and most virtual addresses do not qualify. Wyoming’s Secretary of State says virtual addresses, mail forwarding, PO boxes, UPS, and FedEx are not a registered office. Texas BOC §5.201 says the office cannot be solely a mailbox service unless that enterprise is the registered agent.
Is a virtual business address the same as a registered office?
No. A virtual address is a mail-handling product. A registered office is the address listed with the state for service of process. Some vendors sell both, as separate SKUs, and at least one (Bizee) states that its virtual address cannot be the registered agent.
Why do formation companies sell both?
Because founders want a street address that is not their apartment, and the state wants a statutory agent. Those jobs can be bundled in a checkout flow. They are still two products, two failure modes, and two line items on a three-year bill.
