Nevada charges $60 to change your agent, and sends the warnings to the old one.

A Nevada statement of change costs $60 under NRS 77.280, the most of any state on this desk. The bigger reason to keep the agent line current is where the state sends its warnings. When a Nevada LLC misses its $150 annual list or its $200 business license, NRS 86.274 says the Secretary of State notifies the company by written notice to its registered agent, and the same goes for the revocation notice that follows. If the agent is a formation company you stopped paying, those letters land there. Nevada also requires the agent’s street address to be staffed during business hours unless it is the agent’s home, and anyone serving 10 or more companies has to register as a commercial agent.

Agent requiredNRS 86.231: an LLC shall have a registered agent with a street address for service of process; that address is the registered office. NRS 14.020(1): every LLC doing business in Nevada keeps in the state an agent who resides or is located in Nevada.
AddressNRS 77.300: an actual street address or rural route box number in Nevada, plus a Nevada mailing address if different. A PO box alone does not meet that.
Staffed during business hoursNRS 14.020(3): unless the address is the agent’s home residence, it must be staffed during normal business hours by the agent or by adults the agent authorizes to accept service.
Commercial vs noncommercialNRS 77.040 and 77.320: an agent for 10 or more entities must register as a commercial registered agent, under penalty of perjury, with a Nevada place of business and a felony and fraud-history statement. Anyone else is a noncommercial agent (NRS 77.140).
AcceptanceNRS 77.310(2): the appointment must come with a certificate of acceptance signed by the agent.
Agent dutiesNRS 77.400: forward process and notices to the LLC, keep its own information current, hold the documents the LLC is required to keep with its agent, and keep the name and street address of a contact person. NRS 86.241 lets the LLC keep its member and manager list, articles, and operating agreement with a custodian whose name and address are available at the registered office.
ResignationNRS 77.370: effective the earlier of the 31st day after filing or the appointment of a new agent. NRS 86.251: the LLC must file a statement of change before that date or be deemed in default.
No agentNRS 14.030: if the LLC has no agent, missed the change filing before a vacancy, or the address is not staffed, a plaintiff can serve the Secretary of State ($10 fee) and the LLC has 40 days to answer.

Doing it yourself vs paying an agent

A Nevada resident member or manager can serve for $0, and if the address is your home, the staffing rule does not apply. The trade is the one on our be your own agent and home address notes: the address is public (see is the agent address public?), and the state’s default notices come to you. If you formed in Nevada but live elsewhere, you need a Nevada agent and, under NRS 86.241, somewhere in Nevada that can point to your records custodian.

Northwest$375$125/year flat. Northwest says it files the change of agent for new clients and pays the state filing fee when appointed, which in Nevada is the $60 statement of change.
Bizee standalone RA$447$149/year.
ZenBusiness standalone RA$497$99 year one, then $199/year.
Northwest $125/year from its registered-agent page (re-read 13 October 2026 CT); its Nevada page did not load for us on 15 October 2026, so we do not state a Nevada office location. Bizee and ZenBusiness standalone RA from lib/prices (briefing retrieved 30 August 2026, see 3-year cost). Vendor prices do not change at the Nevada line. The $350/year in state list and license fees is owed on top no matter who the agent is.

Switching agents in Nevada

  1. Pick a successor that resides or is located in Nevada with an actual street address, and get its signed acceptance. A company serving 10 or more entities should show up as a registered commercial agent.
  2. File the Statement of Change of Registered Agent by Represented Entity, $60. It takes effect on filing, and no member or manager vote is needed (NRS 77.340).
  3. Then cancel the old vendor. If the old agent resigns first, file the change before day 31 or the LLC is in default (NRS 86.251). Check that your next annual list reminder and any notices go to the new agent. Vendor walk-throughs: leave LegalZoom · leave ZenBusiness · leave Bizee.

What this page does not do

It does not cover Nevada corporations (which pay a $500 business license), Nevada’s commerce tax, county or city business licenses, or whether forming in Nevada makes sense if you live somewhere else. Nevada’s $60 change next to the other states we track: change of agent. The other popular out-of-state formation choices on this desk: Wyoming and Delaware. Neighbors: California, Arizona. Questions

Does a Nevada LLC need a registered agent?

Yes. NRS 86.231 says a limited-liability company shall have a registered agent with a street address for service of process, and that street address is the LLC's registered office in Nevada. NRS 14.020(1) adds that every LLC doing business in Nevada, domestic or foreign, must appoint and keep in Nevada a registered agent who resides or is located in the state.

Who can be a registered agent in Nevada?

Nevada splits agents into two kinds. A commercial registered agent is a person or company registered with the Secretary of State under NRS 77.320; anyone serving as agent for 10 or more entities must register. Everyone else is a noncommercial registered agent, which covers an owner, a manager, a friend, or a local business serving a handful of companies. Either way the agent must reside or be located in Nevada, give an actual Nevada street address (NRS 77.300), and sign a certificate of acceptance (NRS 77.310(2)). A registration form also lets you name the title of an office within the LLC, such as manager, with that person's business office address.

Can I be my own registered agent in Nevada?

Yes, if you live in Nevada or have a Nevada street address where you can be found. Under NRS 14.020(3), the agent's street address must be staffed during normal business hours by the agent or an authorized adult, unless the address is the agent's home residence. Your address goes on the public record, the Secretary of State's default and revocation notices are sent to you, and NRS 86.241 lets the LLC keep its member list, articles, and operating agreement with a custodian whose name and address are available at the registered office. Most out-of-state owners of a Nevada LLC pay a commercial agent instead.

Can a Nevada registered office be a PO box or virtual mailbox?

No for a PO box alone. NRS 77.300 requires an actual street address or rural route box number in Nevada, with a Nevada mailing address only if it differs. A virtual mailbox at a street address has a second problem: NRS 14.020(3) requires the address to be staffed during normal business hours by the agent or someone authorized to accept process, and a mail-scanning service is not the agent unless it is itself serving as one. If the address is not staffed, NRS 14.030 lets a plaintiff serve the Secretary of State instead.

How much does it cost to change a registered agent in Nevada?

$60. NRS 77.280(1)(a) sets the fee for a statement of change, and the Secretary of State's LLC forms list the Statement of Change of Registered Agent by Represented Entity under NRS 77.340. It takes effect on filing, and members or managers do not have to approve it (NRS 77.340(2) and (4)). That is the highest change fee among the states on this desk. Northwest says it files the change for new clients and pays the state filing fee when it is appointed.

What does a Nevada LLC owe the state every year?

$350 for a typical LLC: the $150 annual list of managers or managing members (NRS 86.263) plus the $200 state business license renewal, which is due with the list (NRS 76.130). The list is due by the last day of the anniversary month. Late adds a $75 default penalty and a $100 license penalty, which makes a late year $525. Those are state dollars, separate from any agent's fee.

What happens if a Nevada registered agent resigns?

The agent files a statement of resignation ($100 for the first entity under NRS 77.280) and notifies the LLC. It takes effect on the 31st day after filing or when a new agent is appointed, whichever comes first (NRS 77.370). NRS 86.251 then puts the burden on the LLC: file a statement of change before that effective date, or the LLC is deemed in default. Default notices are sent to the registered agent (NRS 86.274(1)), and the charter is revoked on the first day of the first anniversary of the month after the missed filing. Reinstatement under NRS 86.276 costs $300 plus every missed list fee and penalty.
